![]() "slippen" wrote in message ... I have had my gar for over a year now and he lives happily with a Convict. Yesterday night I noticed that the Gar's back fin was at the top of the tank and his nose was still about 2 inches below the water line(where he normally hangs out) The Gar gets feeder guppies and the guppies don't usually last more than 5 seconds in the tank, I put one in and the gar hardly even chased it. The Gar's stomach looks rather big(plump) like when he has one too many feeder guppies. The gar is about 7-7inches and the convict is about 4inches. Any help would be great, I am thinking the Gar has some sort of infection in his stomach or bowel as he floats rather wierd and is quite plump. Nothing has changed in that tank for atleast 4-5 months. If the gar needs meds or something else please let me know....i'm in canada btw for availability. Thanks in advance Mike If he is constipated, Epsom Salt sometimes helps. 1 teaspoon to each 5 gallons to start. The most that could help would be a total of 3 teaspoons per five gallons of tank water. good luck. |

Problem could also be internal worms..... i've used epsom salt before to help in drawing out infections by diluting in hot water and soaking, would this have the same effect on a fish, (without the hot water of course)? tedd. In high doses its a laxative. In minor amounts its many times used to add some magnesium/sulphur to the water. It is an ingredient in many RO water additives to give pure water some required minerals and salts. |
