I do 9 hours total. Sometimes longer if they want to watch a movie ; )
I start their virtual day with 1 hr Actinics, 7-1/2 hrs day and Actinics back to Actinics and then the rest lunar. I also do a reverse photo period with my refugium. (about 10 hours) At one point I was doing 12 hours, but I had a small problem with cyanobacteria. Cutting back on the light and nutrients I've found a pretty good balance. CF? VHO? MH? actinic blue 03 same as above... lunar led spot lighting The answer you seek will vary depending on what you have in the tank, and the size of it. I do very well with my 20 gal nano my having my single 20000K MH on for 18 hours, off for 6, and no lunar lights at all. But it's somewhat crowded tank - about 1 sq foot of asstd zooanthids, some xenia, 2 tridacnids, numerous snails, 3 conchs, cleaner shrimp, some hermits, 2 ocellaris clowns and a yellow tang (yes, I have a yellow tang in a 20 gal. I swap him out at LFS when he gets above 4 inches, and get a smaller (1-2 inch) one) Point is I generate a lot of nitrate, and have plenty of grazer to take out the resulting algea if I use a lot of light. If things are crowded, and you are getting a lot of nitrates (ie: anything above 10) you probably want longer daylight times to boost the algea growth. |
