Question - I have a MaxiJet 1200 Powerhead in my tank to create some
current for my fish. I have it unplugged though because it is rather
noisy - it makes an almost grinding noise; I think its the impeller or
something, and I'm not sure how to fix/clean it? Anyone have any
suggestions?

Take it apart. The little propeller thing pulls out and has a magnet on the end. If dirt gets in there, it can make a nasty
noise. Use a thin little bottle brush to clean it out. Do not use soap, etc. I know, that is obvious, but you never know...so
don't be insulted. I had a friend who put a soapy sponge in her freshwater tank to clean the glass. Duh. She cried when the
fish died.

Also, does anyone know whether a noise like that in the tank is bad for
the fish - it drives me nuts, so I'm assuming it drives them nuts too?
Any thoughts would be nice.

I bet it does.

Finally, what's with the taunting messages on this listserv?

Ignore them. Just sad, lonely rude people looking for attention.

Cindy

You're exactly right. Mine developed a bad noise, and all it took
was a good cleaning with a brush to fix it. That goes for noisy
powerheads too.

Make sure you use the brush between the impellar teeth too.
