Right from a breeders fishroom......I picked them up when I was at
the coast earlier this week. I stopped by a lfs there and I inquired about angels and he did not have what I wanted, but looked in his book.......and he gave me the address of a person & phone # that rasied them. I gavce the fella a call and he said he would part with a pair or some of his other stock, and since he was not too far out of the way, I went for a look..........Just typical common silver angels...... He also had some KOI angels, and I thought long and hard on buying some of them, but stuck with the regular silver. ------- I forgot more about ponds and koi than I'll ever know! |

Did the breeder let you know how old they are? I find many Koi Angels to be aggressive. I don't know what it is about them, but they seem to have a bad attitude gene. |

Neat....wish we had some local breeders available - at least you have a higher chance of them being disease free...... Just typical common silver angels...... Over here it is the Koi and the black and white stripey ones that are more common - getting a black or a silver (platinum) is quite a good find - I have one black veil tailed and one platinum.....of course the wild Altum angels are even rarer - my LFS has some in - boy are they expensive but very beautiful....I'm not sure that the staff want to see them sold as I've overheard them telling people that they are very difficult to keep - and the guy who looks after the system in question has already admitted at much to me on a quiet day.... He also had some KOI angels, and I thought long and hard on buying some of them, but stuck with the regular silver. I saw that Tynk mentioned that the Koi can be difficult - my SIL had an experience that tends to back this up - she had two Koi in her 40gall - they were dinky when she got them but ended up at around 4" very quickly - they terrorised every other fish in the tank - she returned them to the LFS - the staff argued amongst themselves then the Manager pulled rank and is now the proud owner of two great Koi Angel specimens.... Where are you going to keep them? I remember you mentioning having them out in your preforms for the summer months but am curious as to where you have them currently.... Gill |

![]() Said they were about 2 years of age......IIRC as I looked at qiuite a few differemnt fish, so I may be wrong on these as to age...OUtside preforms have about 20 more deg to go up and styay at that temp as a minimum for a week or two and they will then be placed outside in a preform. For now thou as I told Gill they are in a 40 gal heavily planted tank....My pick up a dozen or two neons tomorrow, or so. Been feeding the angels krill and chopped silversides and they like it just fine. As well as cichlid pellets. I know th ewilversides is a salt water fish but they are high in protein and on the label has them listed for cichlids and other meat eaters of fresh and sal****er species..... Angels usually live between 8-10 yrs, so you should have them for several more years. Do you know if they are a mated pair, or when you said pair did you just mean 2 of them? |

My pick up a dozen or two neons tomorrow, or so. If you are thinking of the neons for live food I wouldn't bother - my pair of Angels live with around 20 neons and other small fish and don't touch them - which is a good thing as I love my neons and they are hubby's favourites - I know that this isn't always the case and that I have been lucky to date......I know people have different attitudes about feeding live fish to fish - personally I turn a blind eye and try not to think about it too much when my angels and other fish eat the livebearer fry in the main display tanks....Anyway, if you want to provide live as well as dead food then getting some livebearers would be better (and cheaper in the long run as you don't need to replace the adults and they replace the fry themselves)..... Been feeding the angels krill and chopped silversides and they like it just fine. As well as cichlid pellets. I know th ewilversides is a salt water fish but they are high in protein and on the label has them listed for cichlids and other meat eaters of fresh and sal****er species..... Mine get frozen bloodworms, frozen brine shrimp, flake and will occassionally nibble on some veggies such as cucumber or courgette if not beaten to it by the rabble of Clown Loaches......and of course I'm sure that they chomp on any mollie or platy fry as I've got both in the tank and have not seen any fry since the angels went in there....
