I know lots of these identify question but I'd appreciate if you'd all
help me. I went to Petco on Thursday (apparently they get their new
shipments on Wed). I bought these fish as they only had 4 of them and
they were extremely pretty.

Looks a bit like Celebes Rainbowfish.
Maybe a close relative.

Hi Ben,

Those are Celebese Rainbow - Telmatherina ladigesi, very nice fish. I have
3M & 5F for a year now, and 2M still in Q-tank, waiting to go to main tank.

Good luck.

(They also had things I'd never seen there before, rope fish, panda
corries, etc).

I appreciate the identification.

TIA,
Ben

BTW, if you like the Celebese than you would kill for Pseudomugil furcatus,
similar size but much more prettier (also cost 3.5x more). I have 9 in
Q-tank, hehe :-)

Oh, great. I had just about gotten over wanting any new fish, and then
I made the mistake of looking at this site. Now once again visions of
a tank room are running wildly through my head, this time chock full
of rainbows.

Sigh.

Hello there

I could be mistaken but it looks like a rainbow. Possibly a Pacific Blue
Eye. Chuck Gadd over in the plants group would be able to tell you.

Thanks, that's exactly what it is. If the online prices are right, I
got a great deal. Since they didn't know what it was at petco, they
charged me 1.69 for it. (The price of Black Neon tetras). When it was
rung up, apparently black neons were on sale so I saved an additional
2.69 on them making them about $1.00 each.

So far they are doing very well in the tank and seem happy. I wish
there were more for me to buy.

Thanks again everyone!

One thing - if they get their shipment on Wednesday they are putting
the fish out on sale pretty much as soon as they get them. I prefer
to buy from a place that quarantines; when I bought fish from another
store that doesn't I have *always* had problems - usually one fish
that is sick the next day, just in time to contaminate the tank before
dropping dead.

Just a thought for you, if you have an alternative to this shop.

I shared the same feeling.

I once walked into a Koi / pond LFS office and can't help myself but just
staring at the 6ft planted tank with a school of 10 - 12 fully growth
Boesebani rainbows, and my jaw gone stiffed for prolong ...... LOL

Let go change some water to kill off the image.....

In my crazed fish-room dreams, I go one of two ways... either a bunch
of smaller tanks so that I can keep all the species that interest me,
or one big honking tanks around 150 gallons, with colorful cichlids.

Fortunately, I can't afford either approach.
