Default Guppy Babies!

Holy moly!! I just got my 2 guppies yesterday and there's a baby in my
tank!!
Only 1 so far...
I have some pretty decent hiding spots.
Should I do anything special? Or let them fair it out?

Oooh! How exciting

And again and again?

Oh boy!! Lol, I've got 8 of them right now in my little breeder tank (I ran
out and got one this AM) So maybe they'll fair out pretty well.... Just got
my 20gal back from my brother, I was going to put it in the garage, looks
like I might need it... oye!!

Thanks for your help.

The advice I got from Jim Brown was, look at it this way, you can put in
some hiding places, some floating plants, but you also have to keep every
one else in there from being hungry, or else, the young one will be
eaten.... Secondly, since you can almost set a watch to the breeding

habits
of a female guppie, every 28 days, if you lose one now, you'll have more

to
make up for it later...

The females will give birth after she gets real fat and a dark spot,

gravid
spot appears on the rear of her abdomen, and then again in 28 days, and

then
again in 28 days, and then again.... I guess you get the point....

After watching dear old dad chase the little critters around I decided

to
save them... I didn't want to run out at 2am for a breeder net so I'm

using
an oversized fish net for now.

Any keys to keeping the little ones alive and healthy?

Thanks guys and gals! I appreciate the help!

Default Guppy Babies!

A lady in my office saw my tank at home from some pictures, low and behold,
the next day she came in carrying a 5g galaxy tank, and a bag... had 3
guppies, and the game was afoot... a month later, she asked me to look at
her fish, she said two of them were bloated and sick.... turns out the
females were pregnant, 2 wks later, she had a few babies, then a couple..
now the 2 are getting bigger and are coloring up, of course, they're
female.... and now those females are preggy again, it's only been 4 weeks,
but here we go again....

before long, I'll be taking some home for my tanks too...

It's exciting but even if you do nothing you'll end up with 50 guppies and
at that point they take over (like snails) and you won't know what to do
with them. It becomes a real problem. If you have other fish that like to
eat them then it's OK, but otherwise what are you going to do???

and the game was afoot...

Ok this is completely OT, but that totally just reminded me of an SNL Jeopardy skit with Darrell Hammond as Sean Connery...and it plain out cracked me up!

"Well, the game is afoot. I'll take anal bum cover for $7,000."
