Any place I can get good base rock on the cheap? Feel like just driving
down to the keyes over Christmas to do some diving, and load up at a
landscaping shop with argonite.

looks like marco has already taken teh drive for you, lol. some good
deals on that site, i would avoid harvesting from the wild anytime.

I believe the landscaping rocks in the keyes are quarried. They are
also placed in the ocean for cultured live rock. At any rate, I won't
come back from the keyes empty handed next time.

I looked at the marco site. Nice rock! Does anybody have a good web
link for landscaping? I get the generally idea of using PVC to create
supports for the rock, but some detailed reading is in order. I have a
220 gallon aquarium that I'm starting to think about setting up. I'm
thinking of doing something more creative then just piling up the rock.

Taking rock out of the ocean in the keys is also
illegal.

The cultured rock is a different story.

A bunch of folks in a local reef club like this guy:

Second the recommendation for Marco Rocks. I won a 25 lb box at my local
reef club meeting a few weeks ago and was so impressed that I ordered
another 50 lbs. The pieces are big (much larger than a football) and it's
nice and clean. Since it's sold dry, you get probably 50% more rock than if
you bought the same stuff already cured. You can even get it a little
cheaper if you find his auctions on eBay.

You're mistaken.

Can one take legally wet sand from the ocean?

I have a friend driving to Daytona for the holidays
and I asked him to bring me a tupperware full
of wet sand from the trip - dont want him to get
into trouble because of me ;-)
