It's not likely that it was the pop eye that killed
him, since that was so far recovered.

I'm thinking it was probably the water quality. I replaced the filters
to my RODI last night and began to clean up the tanks. One bad thing
about RODI, it takes forever to get the water for a partial change.

I didn't want to mention it as I was wishing you success, but I found
the same thing with a grey angel I treated for pop-eye. I'm not sure
what actually killed him, but I suspect that it was either:

* pop-eye went necrotic, so the antibiotics helped but it was hopeless.
* the absence of a a bio filter was deadly
* a bloom after the antibiotics were removed proved deadly.

I also changed 20% of the water daily and used anti-ammonia chems in QT
(before adding the daily dose of anti-biotic). I thought it was
abundantly cautious, but to no avail.

Sorry.

You don't use a plastic barrel for storage?

I have a 50 gallon drum. It doubles as emergency hurricane stock.

It's also possible that the pop-eye was a secondary symptom of another condition
which killed the fish.

Worry doesn't improve the future; it just ruins the present.
