Dunno off hand other than cut up and gluoed to gether pieces of ABS
pl;astic pipe., I use ABS as its black, and does not stick out like a
sore thumb as PVC pipe does.............but either way it can be
painted and toned down just fine with krylon Fusion or regular old
Krylon paint. I neve rput any of the so called aquarium decorations in
my setups as none are very realistic looking or else they are too much
$$$$$$ and I tend to stick with natural stuff or items that are real
that "could" have fallen in the water like a clay flowerpots
etc.................

* I have natural stuff too but this little barrel, once covered with a fine
coat of algae, looks pretty good and those fish that like to hide love it.
I'll look for ABS on my next trip to HD or Lowe's. I stop in both places
regularly looking for plant sales.

..Any of the realistic decorations just cost too
much for osmehting that is mass produced as such and comes from
CHINA.............no less. Although from time to time Petsmart does
have quite a few decorations on clearance price. I picked up 2 nice
large tree trunks/ with roots etc, that listed previously for $59.99
for a mere $9.99.............the bumblebee cats, and cichlids and
rope fish love them...............

* I never see sales like that here on decorations, just on fish once in
awhile.

Yesterday our local Deathco had tons
of stuiff on sale...........and if one did not know any better one
wouild think they are gouing out of business.(wishfull thinking) Its
been well over 6 weeks since they had any fish in their tanks and
there is still signs stating that aquatic section is closed for
maintenance.............yet nothing has been done there in over a
month........probably closer to 2 months. I was looking for some
frozen mysids, which they did not have anyhow..........and looking in
Deathco was a last ditch effort...........Deathcos tanks are so algae
covered and full of micro bubbles and rotted dead fish its
disgusting............

* One of our Deathco stores are not real great but the other one, in
Nashville, is much better with employees that actually *SURPRISE*....
care!!! The better one doesn't have a great selection of fish. Their fish
dept. is very small but the few times I was there their selection and number
of bettas was outstanding.

One would think they would at least clean out
the tanks of dead bodies and drain and clean them while they are
down.......Then again perhaps they are fixing to revamp the store, and
do like they did the last time...........put all the fish tanks etc
they have their stock in out back and hope someone hauls them off for
them................Guess I need to call my old buddy who is still an
Asst Mgr there and see what is what ....

* Your state must have different laws as to how trash is handled. Here
where I live it all goes in to some kind of huge dumpster no one can access.
Only the monster bales of cardboard are accessible but no one would want
them. No one would even be able to lift them.

MOst times we do not either, but even a blind dog finds a bone every
now and then.

At least we only have one Deathco in this immediate area anymore and
its not anywhere near as good as the others (petsmart and Pets Plus)

the tanks of dead bodies and drain and clean them while they are
down.......Then again perhaps they are fixing to revamp the store, and
do like they did the last time...........put all the fish tanks etc

Yep dead fish etc are all still linside in the tanks.no filtration of
any kind really, unless you count those little micro bubbles which
are probably more of co2 or hydrogen sulphide buildup than oxygen
bubbles, plus there i8s not any signs of flow in the tanks either.

Around this area its amazing what one can find behind a strip mall
that they want hauled off. The restricted access dumpstyers are used
by large stores like WQally World so employees can not toss stuff and
later on go get it out of the dumpster, and also to make sure items
that are faulty and that the store gets credit for is actually
destroyed and not resold or utilized is in deed trashed in those
compacting or restricted access dumpsters.............but the majority
of stores here still use the typical double door or flip top
dumpsters. And with landfills not taking certain items or stores not
willing to paya to have those items hauled away se[parately,k they
often build up quite a collection of odds and ends behind the stores.
No real city ordinance against it, and as llong as the property
managers are not complaining, the stuff accumulates..........9 out of
10 times some one hauls it off as scrounge...like me for example. I
often find lots of good materials and items, just like the stack of 90
gal preforms at Walmart that simply had a hole poked in them and then
tossed. My plastic welder put them all back in tip top shape and they
are all in use................or tons of plants that merely needed a
bit of loving care...some of which are still growing just fine. I
picked up an entire Wally World system setup that the have in the
stores that sell fish, when the person that was supposed to haul it
off never did, and I got it as well as a stainless steel refridgerated
live lobster tank too, which is functioning perfectly well with
locally caught sal****er critters that are not reallty tropical in
nature and like cooler water......so it gets used quite a bit housing
what our grandkids happen to catch at the coast. I just sold half of
a Petco fish tank setup, complete with sink and filtraton system etc
etc.......all self standing on walls and stands..... a few months ago,
so I could gain some of my feed room in the barn back...............It
too was aquired form the store when they revamped their layout,. I
still have the 4 octagon shaped plexiglass towers that have aeration
and lights under them and do have fish in two of them...........I also
have a self contained three compartment tank that Petco is famous for
keeping their three different sizes of common feeder goldies
in.........all free for the asking when spotted behind the Deathco
store. I know one day they are gonna pitch that plexi tank that they
now keep fancey goldies and larger goldies and koi in that has the
high dollar 4 tube florescent fixture housed in aluminum with the T-5
lights in it...Its just matter of time and I feel that time is
getting close with all their tanks basically voild of any real life
forms people pay for.

================================ brevity snips!

* Geeze, they can be a real treasure trove but they've been gone here for
years. Even the restaurants have those that they lock behind fences.
Probably to discourage the homeless from looking for food.

And with landfills not taking certain items or stores not

* I remember the days when you could find stuff like that behind the strip
malls here - no more! :*( I remember finding loads of torn bags of peat
moss, discarded usable pots and a load of shrubs and trees that weren't sold
and tossed out. I stuffed my little Datson wagon (I had at the time) until
it was bottoming out. When I went back for seconds someone beat me too it...
everything was gone.

..or tons of plants that merely needed a
bit of loving care...some of which are still growing just fine.

* YES! Those I found a few times just needed some pruning and a good
watering. Some are still alive here also. :-) Now they're put into some
kind of compactors and destroyed.

* See if you can find out when so you can just "happen to be there" that
day. ;-)
