hi i have a question, how often do i have to change my filter ? I have 37 platies, 2 tetras, 2 mollies and a shubunkin which dose not live in the tank w/ the others. i have a 10 gal with a Aqua-Tech 5-10 gal filter i would like to know how often i have to change my filter becase i dont think i do it often enough. how often do YOU change ur filter. THX in advance. -- Message posted via PetKB.comhttp://www.petkb.com/Uwe/Forums.aspx/freshwater/200803/1 With 41 fish you need a larger tank, at least a 50g. The rule of thumb with tropical fish is 1" per gallon. Depending on the size of your fish, your minimum requirement is 50g. With that many fish I would be changing the water at least twice a week and the filter once a week. I simply rinse off the biobag and use it again (i rinse it in old fishwater, not tap water). I get about 3-4 uses out of it before I replace it that way. I check my filter every day, rinse it off once a week and change it every two to three weeks. Of course, I have goldfish and they produce a lot of waste, but so will 41 fish in a 10g. |
