I did buy a thermometer today and it's reading at 73 or 74 without a heater. Does that mean I can only buy goldfish unless I add a heater? That's what I'm seeing from most of what I've read. General wisdom around here is to not get a goldfish at all for a small tank, since they're unusually messy fish. The low 70s temperatures you're seeing are the bottom range for most hobby fish. Considering that this is winter (I'm guessing you're in Ohio), it's fair to guess that your tank temperature will go up to the mid or high 70s in summer. Perfectly good range for most fish. I wouldn't worry about a heater unless you're seeing large variations from day to night. -- www.ericschreiber.com |
