OK here goes.......

3ft tank
crushes coral / coral sand
2 up lifts with a power head on each
Protein filter
Live rock
Thermometer
Lighting

Do the powerheads have to be on uplifts if not where do you put them..
have i missed anything out?

I was told by a guy i work with who used to keep a marine tank, he said that
if i was using live rock i would not need any other filtration system as the
rock will do it all for me (is this correct)..

What do you mean on the uplifts? Don't put in an undergravel filter it will
become a mess that you can't easily fix without destroying your tank. Just
put the powerheads in to cirulate the water in the tank around.
