I used Aquarisol today for a mild protozoan's infliction, but I think the tank had not received Aqua-Plus for at least a week, so I might be ok. Aquarisol, being copper based, might be a very good cheap choice for loaches. Today was an average day at work. Aquarisol for Costas, Quick Cure for Ich, Neomycin for dropsy, Ammo-lock on a cycling tank and lots of de-chlor. It's a good thing I don't believe in using too much chemicals ;~) NetMax "BigBadGourami" wrote in message news:SW4ac.32480$K91.91363@attbi_s02... I've actually had better success treating loaches with aquarisol. I would turn the heater up as high as 90 degrees, clown loaches can thrive in quite a bit of heat, and use two 1/2 doses of aquarisol per day until all the spots are gone. Took about 5 days with my latest bout. I also add about 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons of rock salt. After all spots are gone treat at 1/2 strength every other day for a total of about 2 weeks. The only concern is that you water treatment will neutralize the copper in the aquarisol. As a result, I dechlorinate my water by aeration instead when doing a waterchange during treatment. All 4 of my clown loaches survived this latest bout as well as the pl#co that started it all. "Paul" wrote in message ... Rick wrote in message ... "Paul" wrote in message ... *sigh* I knew I should have stayed with cichlids!! getting back to the office tank, the loaches have ich. I know how to treat it, I've read all about it on this group, I just want to know, does having tetras, gouramis or catfish complicate things at all? no, you need to treat the whole tank anyways. Half dose of Quick Qure, days 1, 4 7, 10, with water change in between. Rick the stuff I got has malacite and formulin in it.. this is bad for my bio filtration right? I am going to have to undergo a complete cycle again? surely the good of the medication is negated by the re-cycling process if this is the case?? surely not?! surely!!! Hi NetMax, believe it or not, I do not consider medication as chemicals. I take plenty of those myself. For Ich, I keep Rid Ich plus on hand. I have used it twice when I was first buying fish. Haven't needed it for over 9 months. I used it to treat Clown Loaches in my 75 gallon tank. It was the only tank I had at that time, so I treated it. I pulled the filter out and replaced it with one I had removed the charcoal from. Rid Ich blues the water, but does not stain. I was worried about my Plecos and Cory cats, but they had no problems. |

Then again I know what a good job you do and maybe I'm being too fussy. Do me a favour and cut back on the de-chlorinators :-) Graham. |

LOL, that medication was divided up to about 6 tanks out of 107 in operation. Occasionally, there isn't a single fish under medication, but it happens far too infrequently, and doesn't last long with 4 different deliveries a week. I've gotten into the routine of running parallel tanks for some fish. For example, Otos are in two tanks, one tank filled with gaunt pale fish (quarantined new arrivals) and the other filled with plump ones with dark stripes (for sale after being babied for at least 2 weeks). I'm starting to get somewhat proficient at running a fish-room. NetMax |
