Hi I have a 55 gallon tank with about 15 fish in it I have the penguin 330 and a magnum 350 filter will lots of airation just over the last few days i have noticed a strong sulfer smell so i did a partial water change and its not as bad now but it is still there....what causes this and how do I fix this??/ Any advice would be appreciated....thanks Star "John Q" wrote in message ... There must be an anerobic spot in your gravel or sand ,give it a thorough vacuming or raking and you will see a load of gas bubbles escaping the substrate then do a large water change to remove any hydrogen sulphide build up in the water. Just my tuppence worth, but I wouldn't rake it. I would use the vacuum tube, driving it deep into the gravel systematically and jiggle, this will ensure the H2S is taken away by the vacuum and not allowed to dissolve into the tank where with only a few ppm it will kill fish. As someone else said this is not a long term solution though. Cheers A |
