Maybe I should explain a bit further.
When I bought the female she already had eggs in her mouth. Obviously when the LFS guy netted her out of the tank for me to take home, she spat out all the fry in her mouth. At this stage they were all free swimming. I brought them home and put the female in the tank, and the fry in the floating hatchery. About a month later I introduced the fry to the tank, and it seem the other fish dont really care about them much, because they hide around in the top half of the tank. The female has now bred agin with a male from my tank. Im hoping to do the same with these eggs in her mouth.I just wanted to know when I should strip her. Thanks for all your help. wrote: On Sat, 05 Jul 2003 12:13:34 +1000, Andre wrote: Yes but I dont have a seperate tank to grow them up in so I want to strip them and put them into a floating hatchery. I think you will have problems stripping her and using a floating hatchery for the fry. A better approach would be to split the tank into two sections and make sure she is in one section by herself to brood the fry. Sooner or later you will need more tank space. At how many days are they heads and tails and when are they free swimming? Visible yolk sacs for about 15 days but the female will continue to brood them for about 20 days. She will then look after them for another few days Steve |
