Convits

Does anyone know about what size a convict reaches sexual maturity? Also,
how long before you can tell sex? I know females get the redish/orange
spot. Thanks.

As soon as the orange belly shows up, watch out. My buddy had a brood in his
tank and about the time the females started showing orange on their bellies
(around 1 inch), one spawned with a 5 inch Jewel. The result was 3 very shy
jewel-shaped pink fish with vertical black stripes. Cute fish but short of
euthanizing them there's no way they'll ever leave that tank. Be careful.

From my experience I was able to seperate the males and females when they
were at 1-1/4. The males seem to grow faster but the females develop the
orange on their sides. If you are going to breed them seperate them from
others because they become very aggressive towards any fish that get near
the eggs.

I have them in a 30gal tank. Only fish in their is the convicts. I will
seperate them as soon as they start to show. Thanks guys for all the help.
