Hello All,
I have recently started having some difficulty with my emperor filter system. The flow that has been coming from the filters Have been gradually dripping off and this moning one of the filters has quit drawing water from the tank!. I have a 120 gallon tank with 2 emperor filters. Not sure which model though they both have an intake in the middle and w/two outputs and biowheels. I can't really afford a new one is there anything i can do to fix it myself? Right now I only have about 6 fish in the tank but I am worried about getting enough oxygen into the water. Thanks in advance for any help spidey |

Disconnect it, take it to your sink, take apart the impeller chamber and
clean out the chamber and the impeller unit itself. Be carefull with the impeller as the ceramic is breakable. -- Bob Alston 918.494.4913 http://members.cox.net/tulsaalstons/ "spidey_webb" wrote in message ... Ok,
This is quite embarrasing but in the intrest of learning I will share what the problem was. I use two filter cartridges in each slot on the Emperor 480. one is the one with blue floss on the front and the other I fill with Carbon. I do this because I don't change the blue ones out I just rinse them off and then I stick them back in. Well after cleaning both empero 480 with no success at restoring the flow I decided to pull out the blue floss ones and wow now they are running like they are supposed to. I did not realize that stuff would get stuck indide the cartridges and cause blockages. Thanks for your help Bob and don't laugh to hard Spidey "Bob Alston" wrote in message ... I think so yes. It should be a cyllindrical object with a plastic part on one end with teeth. Hopefully you have the booklet that came with the filter to show what the parts should look like. If not, try the internet. It there is no part with teeth, then there will not be any water movement. -- Bob Alston 918.494.4913 http://members.cox.net/tulsaalstons/ "spidey_webb" wrote in message m... The filter you are using is an Emperor 400 model manufactured by
Marineland. Don't fret about your fish. One of these filters is sufficient. Oxygen gets into the water through surface agitation. Check the simple stuff first... 1) Is the filter clogged? Try removing the filter media. 2) Is the flow contro valvel pulled all the way up? (That's the little gray button on top of the unit) 3) Is the intake obstructed in any way? (at the bottom or inside) Is it pushed all the way down into the sump? 4) Is the water level in the tank sufficient? As the water level drops, the pump has to work harder to pull water up through the intake. 5) Have you tried disassembling the unit and thouroughly cleaning it? The impellor may be jammed with debris or algae. 6) Is it or was it making any kind of unusual noise? The motor may be disfunctional. Fortunately, you have 2 units. You can take parts off the non-working one and install them on the working one and see when it fails. Parts for these units are readily available. I buy at www.bigalsonline.com They have a large selection and reasonable prices. Hope this helps...Good Luck!
