Flowerhorns are ugly beasts with a huge ugly lump on their
heads, bigger than the lumbhead cichlids... I don't like those Flowerhorns, but that hump is no bigger than on any mature Central American cichlid. Bob |

![]() "levittd" wrote in message . ca... "Damaclese" wrote in message ... ive got an unidentified african that i got in a bulk deal. i have a 155 gallon bowfront. i think it may even be a southamerican im not too sure buy any way it has recently decided to inhabit one of my coconut shells as a breeding ground. i found this out by being attacked by it while rearanging a fuilter output tube it has attacked me a few times since it doesent draw blood but is extreemly protective. what i was wondering is is there any chance that males of the same lake may be able to fertilize different species ? ive never encountetred this info anywhere else so im guessing the answer will be a stong no any input will be helpfull thanks people! Some species of cichlid will hybridize. This is where Flowerhorns and Blood Parrots come from. The results are horrible, malformed beasts whose miserable, disabled existence serves only to pollute the bloodlines of real cichlids. So yes, it is possible, but IMHO any offspring should be culled immediately. levittd What species made the Parrot? ![]() " What species made the Parrot? Is this done regularly to make this hybrid? -- JK Sinrod NY Sinrod Stained Glass www.sinrodstudios.com Coney Island Memories www.sinrodstudios.com/coneymemories The original producers of the parrot cichlid have never, as far as I know, put forward the exact origin of these fish. Consensus seems to be that they originated with a severumXcitrinellus cross. Not sure if the crossing continues, as some of the parrots are fertile, so maybe now they are just bred to each other. LOTS of cichlids will hybridize. Personally,in addition to the fact that I just don't agree with hybridizing and distributing the offspring, I see nothing in the flowerhorn that is better than a trimac, and certainly nothing in the parrot cichlid that is more desirable than a severum or red devil. You'd be surprised... I've seen some grotesque ones... They're breeding to
enhance the size of the hump these days. "Bob K." wrote in message ... Flowerhorns are ugly beasts with a huge ugly lump on their heads, bigger than the lumbhead cichlids... I don't like those Flowerhorns, but that hump is no bigger than on any mature Central American cichlid. Bob |
