My first attempt at breeding fish has begun! My two kribs have finally
spawned! From previous posts you might recall that the male had dug a cave and they were protecting it. Well, now they are protecting it with amazing fury! The female is spending 90% of her time in the cave and the male is the best guard-fish I have ever seen. he has no fear!! I looked in the cave and all I could see was two little "eggs" that looked like little sack things, maybe 1mm accross, hanging from the bottom of the rock that they dug the cave under. next time Iooked they had gone... I assume the female has moved them to a safer spot with hopefully heaps of other eggs??? I have a couple of juvenile paradise fish in my tank as well. do you think this will be bad news for the fry? I have a very small spare aquarium I could put the fry in if they are likely to all be eaten, but I would rather have them nurtured by mum and dad, as long as 2 or 3 can survive!!! I'm pretty happy! |

I had a spawn of Kribs once. The parents are very protoctive. I had Jewels, Convicts and other same temperment type fish in with them as well. They did fine and I ended up with about 20+ of them surviving. If you have a pleco then I would leave the light on. I would leave them in the tank they were born in. But hey thats just me. Kribs are very fun fish i think......Cary |

The male reminds me of a big, kind, but protective dad, which he is I guess. the female is so small and cute compared to him. |

There is a good chance that those Paradise fish will not get within striking range of the fry, but if you are worried, I'd move the Paradise fish into the smaller aquarium instead. Remember that the first spawn is a practice run, for them, their tank mates and for you. They can make more ;~) Enjoy NetMax |

My first attempt at breeding fish has begun! My two kribs have finally spawned! Congratulations! My kribs have developed an interesting breeding routine. They have spawned about once a month since I got them six months ago and have worked together to protect the eggs and larva. The last several times though the female has decided that once the fry reached the free swimming stage the male was no longer welcome and he was relegated to hiding in a corner. She is not nearly as mean to the other fish in the tank which are still allowed to swim around the tank, just not near the fry. The fry would inevitably slowly disappear and once they were gone (three finally survived from the last brood) the male was allowed to come out of hiding and they were a happy couple again. Brian |

![]() "Paul" wrote in message ... The reverse happened with mine with the male going crazy eating all the fry and killing other tank mates and partner I got into the situation where I was perhaps feeding them to much so the couple were ready to breed again before the previous batch was independant. then they would loose interest in the fry and breed again - once this happend the male (mostly) ate the remaining fry before I caught on to what was happening. On the next cycle - I suctioned out the fry when I started seeing the parents loose interest and let them grow in a small fry tank on their on which worked well. But now my kribs are over a year and a half old and are a close couple but don't breed anymore Al |
