Hi,
I have a Red Zebra Malawi Cichlid which has a black string about an inch long dangling out of one gill. Both gills appear to be red and swollen. All the gill worm descriptions I was able to find describe white/green worms which are barely measured in millimeters... this seems not be fit the description. If anyone has any idea what this is, it'd be helpful in choosing the right medication. The added complication is that this Cichlid is holding (for at least 2 weeks now), together with another one, and both are in a sectioned-off area of the main tank. I don't know if I should wait for it to release the babies prior to attempting treatment and quarantine... Thanks for any help, Akom |

Just my opinion, but if I saw, physically saw something hanging out of a
gill, I'd probably be taking some tweezers and seeing if I could get it out... THEN I'd worry about what it was... Identifying it is key, and without knowing, it could have been a poop string a pl*co just let go... who knows.... -- RedForeman ©® "Akom" wrote in message news ![]() Hi, I have a Red Zebra Malawi Cichlid which has a black string about an inch long dangling out of one gill. Well,
by morning time it was gone, but the gills are still red and puffy. Now I'm faced with figuring out: A) what to treat with B) where to treat (main tank if all are now contaminated, or not?) C) when to treat (before or after she releases the babies) On Mon, 26 Jan 2004 13:53:45 -0500, RedForeman ©® wrote: Just my opinion, but if I saw, physically saw something hanging out of a gill, I'd probably be taking some tweezers and seeing if I could get it out... Again, just an opinion, but are you sure it was gill worms? I wasn't there,
and I have never seen them, never have seen pictures on the net of them, so I'm totally clueless, but here's what I've got... Gill Worms (Dactylogyrus). a white worm extruding from gills is a parasite http://www.altavista.com/web/results...ls=1&avkw=aapt I used MSN, but it kept giving problems, so Altavista gave me a whole page full of links, here ya go... -- RedForeman ©® "Akom" wrote in message news ![]() Well, by morning time it was gone, but the gills are still red and puffy.
