![]() "Kodiak" wrote in message . .. A freind of mine has a 4" Discus on the Methelyne Blue to treat (14day treatment) an ich breakout. He did not use a hospital tank so I'm concerned about a relapse when his biofilter fails. Then i read that Methelyne Blue neutralizes ammonia and Nitrites, is that true? Considering this, lets say he were to do a 10% water change every day after the 14day treatment and slowly phase out the Blue, would the left over dilluted Blue minimize the ammo and Nitrite spike and in the meantime allow the biofilter to recover as the Blue gets slowly phased out? Far fetched theory? If not what is the best way to proceed? (He dosen't have another tank) The 4" fish is in a 38gal with a 3" PLECO. ...Kodiak "thebutton" wrote in message ... you can apply it as a topical lotion on the body which ive done as well with cotton-bud stick on affected areas. tip;- do it through a net so they dont flap. be quick.have all your equipment ready when the time comes on hand. "Kodiak" wrote in message .. . Will Methelyne Blue treatment kill my bio-filter? ...Kodiak As other posters have said, methylene blue is not very effective for parasites-you are better off with a formalin/malachite medication. Methylene blue is reported to have a mild effect against nitrite toxicity, but as far as I know not against ammonia. It is toxic to some bacteria, including the nitrosomonas in the biofilter. All in all not a very useful medication when compared to the others available these days. I think a fish as sensitive sa discus would be very stressed by the disruption in the biofilter. Saro |
