Default Can I Get Anti-Biotics?

I have a wild fish (bluegill) that was caught with a fishing pole and

hook.
It's been doing okay in my tank (eating and behavior), but the hook sores
above its mouth have now caused a swelling in one side of its nose.

It looks to me like some sort of infection. My water isn't great (nitrates
are pretty high--I'm doing some water changes but have had some trouble)

but
the other fish seem to be doing fine.

I was just wondering if it's possible to administer antibiotics to this
fish, and if they can be purchased without going to a vet.

Thanks for any tips!

Jonathan

Throw him back in, and let nature decide.

Well, first of all, it wasn't nature that caught him on a hook, and second,
I'd like to keep him (along with my other wild-caught fish).

Jonathan if this has a whitish appearance it is likely a fungal infection.
You can net the fish and while gently holding the fish in the net apply some
meth. blue or other anti fungal medication directly to the spot uisng a q
tip.

Although a little secondary fungus appears to be showing up, most of it
appears to be internal swelling. So I don't think dealing with the fungus
would take care of the problem.

Thanks.

they are a very hardy fish and it will likely be fine. I have a dozen
Lepomis megalotis (longear sunfish) at the moment in a cold water tank.

I've seen photos of those that look awesome. I had a few green sunfish,
which are local, but they don't have longear sunfish in my area (Salt Lake
City, UT).

I've always thought longear sunfish would be really cool!

ive got one that i caught as a baby in a minnow trap that i catch food
for my snapping turtle. that was a year ago. the turtle wont eat it!
ive had another "pet" for the past year. i guess the turtle would
rather be in the tank with my cichlids that he stares at all day. i
guess they look like they taste better. the sunfish is pretty cool
tho. has as much personality as my cichlids.
