Other than store purchased foods, what other foods can be fed to goldfish?
From what I've researched on the web I've heard of the following: * peas (tried this and the fish love it) * carrots (tried this also and the fish won't touch it) * lettuce (tried and the fish didn't touch it) * broccoli * eggs * spinach * any fresh green vegetable * worms (preferably from a live bait shop - they would be cleaner) * coctail shrimp What about food like lunch meat, cooked chicken, or tuna? Thanks, E.Otter |

You can grown mosquito larvae (don't let them hatch) and tadpoles (which have taken over my FULLY chlorinated pool...weclome to Florida) for meaty treats. Deanna |

Coffee probably isn't good for fish, but the cornmeal should work OK. Sounds like how we used to clean steamers and little necks. Made for tasty fried clams! Cheryl |

My goldfish really enjoy mosquito larvae. I catch them live when I can
and buy frozen ones out of season. They also really like eating plants so I give them duckweed and hornwort to snack on. I think some kinds of tadpoles are poisonous, or at least nasty tasting. My gfoldfish didn't like American toad tadpoles. They would eat them and then spit them out again. Judy |

why not just get a really good, high quality, high protein, high fat food made
specifically for GF and stop trying them out on people food which isnt really appropriate. GF are not herbivores. Their intestines are 3X as long as their bodies.. about the same as wolves. They need protein for building their bodies and fats for energy and they cannot digest carbohydrates well and complex carbs not at all. all those veggies are in one end, out the other and make bulk wastes that foul the tank. switch to good quality food, feed VERY LITTLE at a time and see the nitrates drop, the filter is cleaner longer. http://users.megapathdsl.net/~solo/p...care/food.html Ingrid ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List Manager: Puregold Goldfish List http://puregold.aquaria.net/ www.drsolo.com Solve the problem, dont waste energy finding who's to blame ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Unfortunately, I receive no money, gifts, discounts or other compensation for all the damn work I do, nor for any of the endorsements or recommendations I make. |
