OK, I think I changed my email address enough...next I'll aply a filter to
block the sources that already have my exact email address.

Is anyone else getting messages like this? I have ran all kinds of virus
scans and they say my PC is clean. Any feed back would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jim

The lesson here is dont post using a real address!! Spamers will filter
out( nospam etc)

I have wondered why I was getting hundreds of bad stuff and a friend
using the same ISP had none. He browses the web often and signs up
for stuff more than I do. So, newsgroups sound right to me.

I got my ISP to filter and am down to 20 to 40 a day. I bought
"Mailwasher" which allows me to "Bounce" a message back as though my
address is bogus. That seems to help. Mailwasher also lets me know
many things about each message which allows me to make decisions such
as delete, blacklist in addition to the filters. Viagra and "penis"
enlargement are sure a nuisance. I haven't found a filter word that
catches all of them, same with viagra.

I sure miss the good old days without this bad stuff.

Have you tried filtering the words using the "body".

"the body" - "contains" - "put your words here" see if that helps.

Since I first posted this topic, I joined the virus news group. The virus
is called the SWEN virus. It alters the message frequently as it runs, so it
gets around many filters. I suspect some one in this group has it, since the
messages only stared after my first post in here.

Will everyone please scan their PCs for viruses! And if your anti-virus
program is out dated please update it. I'm listing the products I use. They
are ALL free for personal use.

Here is a link for a free Anti-Virus program:
http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php

Here is a link for a free online scan (web based virus scan)
http://www.pandasoftware.com/actives..._principal.htm

Here is a link for a Trojan Scanner:
http://www.moosoft.com/thecleaner/download.php

Here is a link for a Spyware fixer:
http://www.safer-networking.org/inde...&page=download

Please clean your PCs These viruses run in the background. You may not know
you have one.

Thanks,
Jim

I'm assuming since I run a Mac I don't have to worry with this or am I
wrong? All the virus scan stuff that is for "free" or what have you are
always for Windows based systems. The guys at the Mac store told me I really
didn't have to worry about it because almost all viruses, worms, etc. are
windows based. They told me to never download and run program installers
from the internet unless I get it from Tucows, CNet or some other reputable
internet based software place and I know I haven't run any type of program
that was downloaded unless it was from one of these.

I did not read anything about viruses on MACs. I was talking to the Windows
folks. Viruses are a problem on Windows because its use is so pervasive. The
MAC community is so small in comparison. I am going to put Linux and X
windows on my old PCs though... so I'll know more info about that in the
future.
