I went through the same "toad vs. frog" thing a few years ago -- the answer became obvious when I saw the first frog, as I'd only seen toads in my pond before! BTW, toads may not spend all that much time in the water, but it's clearly preferred as the "singles bar hangout"! That was another clue, actually -- I only found toads near or in my pond after dark. Frogs, one at least, would be there day or night (I think she was guarding the eggs she had laid there). Also, toads look "dry" (in my opinion), but frogs look wet & sleek; also, the eyes of frogs seem to be much "bulgier" (sorry) than those of toads. Based on the pictures on your website, that's a frog. This may be entirely a wrong assumption on my part, but it also seems to me that toads are always "treading water" when in the pond, but frogs disappear under water & come back when they feel like it.
