Just finished the stand for my new 66gal reef. I framed it out of 2x4
and covered it with 1/2" oak plywood. It looks great and is very solid. I put 5 coats of verathane on the inside and 3 on the outside. I am building the canopy now, and was looking for suggestions on what to put on the wood to seal it... I will be running 4 48" VHOs over this, re-using the Icecap 660 I already have. |

Hi Xerces:
I'm assuming you're talking about is sealing the inside surfaces of the hood. When I finished my hood, I used paint used for painting fiberglass. I picked it up at a boating store. Choose a nice bright white for maximum reflectivity, so that more light will reach your critters. HTH D.T. wrote: Just finished the stand for my new 66gal reef. This is for the HOOD. This part does NOT go into the water. You are not
painting the inside of your TANK. Also, this is FIBERGLASS paint bought at a boat store, not HULL paint that contains COPPER. I couldn't afford THAT stuff if I wanted to paint my hood with it anyway. I put in the boat store part so that you might have a clue as to where you could buy it. You can buy it ANYWHERE you want to. I'm sorry I wasn't more specific. Geez. I thought that paint for boats had poison in it to stop stuff growing on it anti fowling paint ?? not sure though |
