Frogs With Spots

We have about a dozen frogs now in the pond. They are all variants of green
to yellowish green. I hope to get some updated pics this weekend. Over the
past few weeks I have seen a few that were olive green, with black spots.
They are almost leopard skinned. I have seen one that was a few inches long,
and I caught a baby in the yard and put him near the pond. I have not seen
them again. Weird. The green guys are all over the place but, the leopard
looking ones make rare appearances.

Any thoughts on breed? behavior?

They are probably the aptly named Leopard Frogs. If the all green ones get
really big then they are Greenfrogs (so imaginative in amphibian names...),
they like to hang around the pond, as do Bullfrogs.

Yes, they can.
Greenfrogs can be a tadpole anywhere from
3 to 22 months.
If you are up North and your pondlet might freeze solid you may have roomies
for the winter ;-)

Look for a picture of the Rocky Mountain Spotted frog, I think it was
called. I had one for a while in my pond, came from a group of BF tadpoles
I got the first year. ~ jan

Correction, my memory is fading. Looked it up and it was Mountain
Yellow-Legged Frog I had. Got Mountain and it is well Spotted. ;o0 ~ jan

Ahhh... Thanks. If they haven't made the change by September I'll move them
to the 1000 gallon pond. In New Jersey we do have cold winters!
