How many clownfish make a good number? The reason I ask is that we
added 3 perculas to our 75 gallon, and for the first 4 days, they all swam together, but now, it looks like 2 of them "paired" up and the other looks so lonely. What should I do? Get another clownfish? Get rid of the "extra" clownfish? Thoughts? Ideas? Nick |

Sand, I can't speak for Nick, but for me at least, not all posts show up. So
I may not know that a subject was discussed recently.:-) -- Joe Fisher Teacher, K-8 Kalispell, MT "Sand ******" wrote in message ... Why not read the other posts? This was review just recently. "Nick Buol" wrote in message ... How many clownfish make a good number? |

This seems to be exactly what happened. A few days ago, or whenever
the other posts were posted, I did not have this question, and now today, the other posts are no longer stored at my news provider. So, will the one always be a "loner?" Or will he start socializing
again? You are right that the largest and second largest (not by much, though) have "paired." Nick On Wed, 10 Sep 2003 21:39:13 -0500, "Adam" wrote: "Nick Buol" wrote in message .. . What should I do? Get another clownfish? Get rid of the "extra" clownfish? Thoughts? Ideas? Nick My guess would be that the two that paired up would be the larger of the three (maybe). What is probably going on is that you will soon have a female, a male and a juvenile (the one by itself being the juv and still unsexed). They should all be ok together. If you add more they might not get along because the new one might try to break the hierarchy that from what you are saying has already been established. Also if one of the new ones that you get is already sexed (not really any way to tell), You will most likely wake up to one or more floaters. I'm pretty new here but Clowns are my thing. The rest of you folks here may now check my FIRST attempt at being the helper instead of the helpie. |

No, my news provider no longer has them. I already tried resetting
themessage history, and I went as far as deleting the entire newsgroup , closing my reader, opening it back up, downloaded all of the newsgroups again, subscribed, got all messages for the newsgroup, and yes, there are more messages now, but none about clownfish, except some message about spawning clownfish. Thanks anyway. I wish you were right. Nick On Thu, 11 Sep 2003 04:05:35 GMT, "Robert" wrote: No. Your newsreader is deleting them. Reset the message history. If it were reviewed just recently, the word clownfish was not in the subject. http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e...nfish&btnG=Goo gle+Search&meta=group%3Drec.aquaria.marine.reefs However, the word "troll" came up several times... ~Mort |

Nick you didnt give us enough information, what you really need to do is tell us how long they have been in the tank. and about how big they are. however you can only have 1 female clown you can only have 1 male clown you can have as many juv clowns as you feel like for any reason you dont have one of the following these rules will apply if you dont have a female and you do have a male it will change to a female if you dont have a female or a male then the juv will convert to a female if you have a female and dont have a male a juv will convert to a male if you dont have either a male or a female one will convert to a female then another will convert to a male what ever is left stays a juv if however if you have a male and add a male it will be a fight to the death if you have a female and add a female it will be a fight to the death juv's dont really fight for teratory only upgrading to a male/female this will take some time and the selection is usually domanance in a few instances a death occurs in picking dominance I hope i havent left anything out, its been posted a few times over the last few months, and my "table" is getting better looking/organized, one of these days ill setup a few responses for these kinds of questions but for now I retype them each time there needed. -- Richard Reynolds |
