Can anyone advise as to the suitability of putting a betta in a tank
together with Zebra Danios and Neon Tetras?

I'd quite like one but don't want anyone to get killed!

Thanks.

i think zebra danios might nip at the bettas fins and stess him out. i
however have 4 neon tetras and 3 white cloud minnows in with one of my male
bettas in a aquarium and everyone gets along fine. it also depends on the
betta's personality, some bettas are pretty mellow but others are terrors of
the deep and prefer to live alone. just have another tank or bowl for the
betta ready if things dont work out with the other fish.

I didn't have a problem. I have a 45 gallon, we had 4 2inch+ angel
fish, 10 danios at the top, swordtails and a variety of others.
Other than the angel fish being aggressive to everyone, the only other
anxeity were the male sword tails to each other....

The Betta has beeing doing fine.... thriving seems to do well with
everyone....

I have had female Bettas in with both Zebra and Leopard Danios and
never had a problem. I really think it depends on the fishs'
personalities.

Many thanks for your contributions.

I have a reserve tank in case things don't work out!

Well, I have a red betta together with (mostly sci names):
Trichogaster Leeri;
Red neons;
Angel Fishes;
Rasboras;
Platys;
Clown Botias; etc
and it never bothered them. It likes to be in the top of the aquarium
between some leaves, and the fish behaves like a gentleman. Maybe some day
it will become "unsocial", since it has a big fighting fame... but I think
the only thing that triggers its violence is the presence of another betta.

I have had one in my mixed tank and he never bothered any other fish, the
fighting part of the name only comes out with two males in the same tank

Hi all,

Well I got a betta, and for now have put him in a tank on his own to see how
he gets on.

I've had him a few days, and since he's been in the tank, he's seemed very
lethargic and has spent most of the time in the little model castle that's
in the tank.

Is this normal for a betta new to a tank, so am I doing something wrong?

Mine was pretty shy in the 1st week, and is still not much seen as are my
Angels. But it will come out eventually.

He spent most of the day yesterday inside the castle. Got home this evening
to find him out and about. I wondered if he'd come out when he got hungry!

Yeah, everything seems fine now.

Cheers.

Just one other thing (and I think I probably already know the answer to
this) - would it be inadvisable to put a few minnows in with the Betta? It
is a 5 U.S. gallon tank.

Thanks.
