You need a new expert.g

CO2 is absolutly *not* required. I have seen crappy planted tanks
with CO2, and awsome planted tanks without CO2, such as that 150 I
mentioned, and vice-versa. It's optional, but can result in some
fantastic-looking tanks.
Some plants are picky about PH, most of the plants you'll
commonly find in the LFS are not. Also, FWIW, I have kept Java Fern
in tanks that averaged over 7.5. eg
Most important rule I've learned? Your Mileage May Vary. As
NetMax points out on his site, much "advice" we recieve is anecdotal,
and won't apply to what we're trying to do.
