Opinions on the Flying Fox

I am considering adding some Flying Fox (Epalzeorhynchus kalopterus)
to my 58G aquarium. It is mainly for algae eating purposes but of
course also for the enjoyment of the fish itself.

How does it compare as an algae eater to other algae eaters such as
Siamese Algae Eater (Crossocheilus siamensis)? How many should I get,
if any? Will it get along with my clown loaches, giant danios, and
blue gouramis? Is it hardy or fragile?

I actually wanted to get the SAE but can't find any in my area but did
find a store that sells Flying Foxes and heard that Flying Fox is
comparable to SAE for algae control purposes.

Any opinions, especially based on personal experience, is very much
appreciated!

Flying foxes (Epalzeorhynchus kalopterus )are in no way near the
algae grazers as Crossocheilus siamensis, the Siamese Algae Eater.
They are also more aggressive and territorial, very much so with
thier own kind. It is recommended to keep no more than one adult
flying fox in a tank.

Nah they're almost useless apart from their high stamina levels. You'd be
better off with a single CAE and a few SAE's if you can source them
elsewhere.

I have had 3-4 flying foxes in my 55 gallon and they "played" nice. Never
bothered my adult or juvie angels or anyone else as far as I could tellGet
to same 3-4 inches as SAEs. Now I have at least 2 SAEs and 1 FF. Maybe a
couple more - hard to take a headcount in my heavily planted tank.

Can't tell what the FF's do re algae due to pleco, otto, rosy barb pair in
the tank; now I also have the SAEs. I really liked the way the SAEs
schooled and "hovered" as a group - especially when small.

Some people buy them by mail. I bought a dozen from Arizona Aquatic Gardens
and was pleased with the transaction.

Do not get a CAE. The only good CAE is a DEAD CAE. (Went after my angels).

A single Flying Fox makes an adequate addition to the tank. In my
experience you put more than one and they fight.

They are nice to look at when they get big, but they are not "algae eaters".

My 4" Flying Fox eats *maybe* 1 square cm of algae a week (1/2 sq"), and is
constantly going out of his way to harass my pictus cats. I'm getting
increasingly tempted to ship him off to another tank with a Red Devil .
