Does anyone have any experience with the Prism Pro Deluxe Skimmer. If so
please post a reply. I currently have a Back Pac and am a little disappointed in the performance. Thanks |

Larry,
What size tank are you planning to put it on? I've used the BakPak II RR and an AquaC Remora and the AquaC is a much more reliable and productive skimmer in my experience. ![]() Only had the Prizm one week and am happy with it. I particularly like the surface skimmer that comes with the deluxe. "Larry Day" wrote in message ... I have a Prizm Deluxe and am more pleased with it than the Bak-Pak I have.
The unit is much more easy to remove from my tank (20Gal) and clean than the Bak-Pak... However I did have to make some modifications to get it to my liking. I had to an adjustable spacer to set it back farther from the tank. I also had to restrict the flow on all but two of the intakes on the surface skimmer cup to get more efficient surface water removal. The primary drawback of their design is that the air inlet to the pump rests dead center over the axel shaft of the impeller. Over time, Hair algae will get wound up there and get tall enough to stop up the air inlet. But hey, it needs to be cleaned on occasion anyways and hair algae is often a minimal concern in a well established tank... When this happens, the skimmer will suck dry with a surface skimmer attached.. Which is good because the increased flow at the outlet can cause leakage over the sides of the outlet and make a mess. For this reason, I would not use one without the surface skimmer... The best design feature is that the air that flows into the pump-back into the cup is a closed system. This means NO STINK like with the Bak-Pak which vented collection cup air and smell out into the room. Also this creates a negative pressure in the cup which aids in the expulsion of the skimmate. I am surprised more manufacturers do not do that. I plan to modify other skimmers I use to do the same thing and see how it works. Stephen "Larry Day" wrote in message ... i was talking to the LFS today and he was telling me about how long the
backpack lasts and how good it works. maybe your not doing something right? he was talking about using a penguin 2100 or something like that for the powerhead for the backpack to get it to work good... i need to upgrade from a basic skimmer to somehting a little more elaborate than woodstones. so i asked him about the remora, and he told me why dont you just get a backpak... sorry thats all i can tell ya wolfhedd "Larry Day" wrote in message ... Remora will be almost none except for those LFS that carry more exotic equipement. Ask them if they carry IceCap ballast. Most of them will need to call their supplier first before giving you the price. CapFusion,... |
