I use salt on a continuse basis. One tablespoon for every ten gallons.
Keep in mind, once the salt is added, it doesnot evaporate out of the tank. So only add it once, then when you do water changes, ie if you clean and remove ten gallons of water. You can add one table spoon back. If ten gallons evaporate, do not add salt when you top up the tank. As for the melefix, good to have on hand, but don't use it unless there are signs of inffection ect. Also if you do have to use any medicine, remove any charcoal from your filters.
