![]() LOTS of greenery and a pair of bettas? :-) -- K. I hope that comment was supposed to be a joke. Who would keep a pair of male or female bettas in a small tank? Its not a good combo if you want your fish to live. |

Its not a good combo if you want your fish to live. Actually, 10 gallons works. This was many moons ago, but my mom had a pair (a male and a female) in a 10 gallon tank. She had a LOT of live plants in there, (mostly Elodia) and the female stayed in the plants until she got gravid. The male blew a lovely bubble nest and we watched them go thru their mating ritual. He wrapped himself around her to get her to release the eggs while he released milt, then he picked up the eggs in his mouth and blew them into the bubble nest. I don't think I'd try to keep a pair in anything _smaller_ than a 10 gallon tho', no! I've personally not tried it. I just have a pretty red male in my bathroom in a 1.5 gallon tank with an undergravel filter and a couple of mystery snails. -- K. writes In article , sophie- says... I started off in a similar situation to Tispe and now have a four foot tank. Still wondering what to put in the little one; I fancy a) corys and b) kuhlis. hrrrrrmmmmm. fishkeeping is disturbingly addictive. My advice: "borrow" one of your goldfish temporarily, set up the old small tank, let it cycle, then leave it running and empty. Sooner or later, you'll be wanting a hospital or isolation tank, and an already-cycled one is a nice thing to have. that's how it is at the moment. I want to pout something in it. I am happy to set up a small plastic tank as a quarantine tank, though... -- sophie |

One thing I will suggest is to get a bigger tank (try ebay for a second hand one). I'm new here, but wanted to suggest the OP might try a local Freecycle group too. Aquariums are found on those lists pretty regularly. A |
