![]() "Mr-Moonlight" wrote in message oups.com... | Ok... I'll have 25kg of live rock... in my 40 gal tank.... | | What amount of fish will I be able to hold? And will the mechanical | filter be of help...? | It's a tough question,..really! You have a good amount of LR in there. You *might* get away with 8 small fish, you might only get 2 larger fish. The size of the tank really has much less to do with stocking levels than the temperment and requirements of individual species. You just have to decide what fish you'd like to keep, then research the needs of the individuals, and determine from there which ones will co-exist peacefully. In freshwater aquaria, you can use the "one inch of fish per gallon" guideline, but there just isn't such a rule in marine. I've heard people say "one inch of fish per 5 gallons", but I really don't think this is a safe guideline to utilize. My 75 gallon has 5 fish, (and some other critters) and I consider it fully stocked. They're smallish, but the temperment of the fish won't likely tolerate additional inhabitants. This is due to poor planning on my part at the beginning. As for the extra filter, with the amount of rock you have (provided it's properly cured?) you will not likely need it. In fact, many would say it could be harmful because the filter media will produce nitrates which the LR must process, reducing your potential fishload. Hope this helps a bit! billy |
