To use the bagged milk, you place it in an open-topped pouring jug

Very cool. Dare I ask if the plastic bags get recycled? The plastic
milk and detergent jugs get recycled into all sorts of things here,
but I haven't seen an operation doing anything with poly (I assume)
bags.

In my town the poly bags do not get recycled, but we take many to the
library for use by people taking out books.

That's poly grocery bags for the library. I'm sorry but the milk bags go
to landfill.

Oh, and just to pull this back on topic the 5 remaining tetras are doing
good - mr skulker has joined back in the game with the others :-)

===============
That's good news! :-)) My news isn't so good. I got a refund on the
Wal*Mart lionhead that suddenly dropped dead the other day. Not a mark on
it - but who knows what was INSIDE the fish. Another one broke out with a
nasty ulcer that isn't responding to treatment. The last two look fine -
so far. They guarantee them for 90 days now so it looks like I'll be
taking another trip to that store soon.

Had I been able to find calico lionheads anywhere else (other than online)
I wouldn't have touched these with a 10' pole.

Koi-lo... have you looked at petsmart, that is where I have been getting my
goldfish, I started a tank for Luke (6yr old) a compromise he wants a pond,
I might get a pond I seen in the classifieds, anyway I got those few black
moor telescope's, a calico telescope, 2 red cap, and the "r" goldfish, but
they had a big selection of goldfish, I think they are a chain so I am
guessing they are in all states, but these guys (so far) seem to be very
healthy, happy. I did see some kind that said lion but not sure if they are
the ones you are talking about, i thought it was neat they have three rows
from top to bottom, they have baby type on bottom, then a little bigger in
the middle then (i think) full grown on top, woow they are expensive when
they get big.
NIk
I am having the same problems finding female betta's, i spent an hour on the
phone and no one has them, strange, i am considering getting them from the
net although i dont want to.

Oh yes. Most of my goldfish come from there nowadays. They have the
biggest selection. My gold and gold and white lionheads come from there. I
also buy fish at the new Pet Supermarket - neither place got in calico
ranchus or lionheads. I checked out other stores as well when I would pass
them.... none there either. I was so surprised to see such nice ones at WW
that day I suffered instant temporary insanity and bought 4 of them.

that is where I have been getting my
goldfish, I started a tank for Luke (6yr old) a compromise he wants a

Cheapest way: Buy a $9.99 kiddy pool at WW and a cheap black dropcloth to
use as a liner. Keep liner in place with a fee rocks - instant pond for
under $15.00. ;-) It's also too shallow for a 6 yr old to drown in.

We have them here and they're the best as far as selection of GF goes - but
never a calico lionhead or ranchu.

Yes, that's how my PetsMart is set up also. I buy the smaller ones
naturally. They did have a beautiful black ranchu last week for $14.99 that
I almost bought but have 2 black moors in the display tank.

Have patience as most of the stores do get them in I'm learning. My
PetsMart had a tankful last week. Some were near adults and very attractive
reds and blues. Pet Supermarket also carries them if you have one near you.
I was told Petland also gets them in at times.

A 90 day guarantee on fish? You gotta be kidding me!

=========================
That's what they told me - 90 days! So if this little fella don't make it
I'll get another refund. I'll also keep the other 2 Qed for 30 days. GF
ulcers are nasty business. I just added more salt and KoiZyme to their
Q-tank.

========================
A black plastic dropcloth (also comes clear) is used to cover furniture when
one paints the ceiling or walls in a room. They can be found for under $5
in most Wal*Mart type stores including Home Depot's and Lowe's (more
expensive there). They are non-toxic and last for up to 5 years.

Thanks for that!

Here in northern Ontario the snow is still melting, but I'd like to try
a kiddy-pool pond this summer. Would you recommend placing it in the
shade to keep it cool, or in the sun for plant growth? I'd like to put
some of my water lettuce and other plants in it, maybe some hornwort -
might they be ok?

As to fish, which fish would you recommend I put in the kiddy-pond: my
zebra danios, platies or goldfish? The goldfish are pretty big, and I'm
worried they'll become cat or racoon snacks.

Deliberately cross-posted to rec.ponds.

Just a suggestion, but as this is now about ponds and cross-posted to
rec.ponds - how about changing the subject? A discussion on Neon Tetras
might put the ponders off....

Gill

BTW remaining 5 still doing well :-)

If you love platies, they could produce some nice healthy offspring in
the kiddie pool of your.
