Yep. Sounds like someone 'opened' the box before he bought it. Our
local Petsmart has that problem. I have to make sure that if I buy
anything from them that the packaging is still sealed. I have come
home from there with missing motors, missing media etc when buying
filters! That won't ever happen again!

I *wondered* about that empty hole when I was putting it all
together... I'll be going back to Petsmart on Saturday! *whew*!!!

Be sure to OPEN the box and ensure all the parts are there this time.
It is sad that people have to appropriate parts without paying for
them. However, it seems that Petsmart is really known for not having
security watching what is going on... at least the 3 different stores
I have visited in different towns have all had the same problem. Open
boxes... empty cartons on the shelf that are supposed to contain test
kits, but the entire kit is missing... just the empty box or just the
test tube etc...

I wonder if they'll replace my spotted catfish... :-((( I really did
love that booger. Such a feisty fish... and getting soooo big.

I doubt that they will, but you might want to 'push' the issue since
you did your part in purchasing a new pump and it was 'their' fault
that they had allowed someone to strip the impeller from the package.

Thanks so much for your help, guys; this group is LOTS friendlier than
the programming groups (well, only a few people, but it does color
your perceptions for everywhere else) where I tend to go looking for
answers...

You are very welcome... I have been 'lurking' here for a few weeks...
just to see what is up. A friend told me about the usnet groups for
fish and it caught my interest. It seems that there are some VERY
responsible people in these groups that are more than willing to help!

And if you're ever over in alt.fan.heinlein, let me know and your
drinks are on my tab! :-)

hmmm.... you just might find me 'lurking' in there in the future... I
had forgotten how much fun usenet can be and how much useful
information is available from all the helpful folk around... of
course, you do have to keep your head down and your eyes open or you
can get targetted for garbage.

What is even sadder is that PetSmart does not sell parts like this,
but will GIVE stuff like impellers to customers. At least, that has
been my experience with the one near me (Windsor,ON)

Opened box, and sure enough, there was a nifty little white fan
looking part in the new one that wasn't there in the old one! Took it
home, put it together, hung it on tank, filled with water, plugged in,
VOILA!!! All's better!

I didn't bother, they didn't have the same fish there as what I had.
So I got two black neon tetras (which are clear with a black and
yellow stripe, not all black, but they're very pretty) and a FROG. I
*love* frogs...

Yes, there are. And now I have some questions I have to ask
elsewhere, and am hoping not to get flamed too badly... RTFM and all
that. But what do you do if you've read all the FMs and all the FAQs
and you can't find it? Sigh.

And if you're ever over in alt.fan.heinlein, let me know and your

Absolutely. Thanks again!
