I was joking....It's sitting in the middle of my floor because when my
husband brought it in the house.... that is were he set it, its not full,
so I don't think I need no concrete just yet....He is a man it will be
there for a few days....he works 72 hours a week, so it may be a week, to
be honest I think he did it on purpose so I could not fill it before he
secured it...he knows me to well

It would look pretty funny set up in the middle of my living room, i have
three kids it would not last long.

My new one sat in the middle of the Conservatory for at least 4 weeks
before anything happened to it....It did give me the advantage of having
plenty of time to plan what I wanted to do with it though :-)

Do you have any salt water tanks? I was thinking it would be really pretty,
I would have to do a lot of reading, I don't know how much different the
equipment is from fresh to salt.
I just spent 20 min. looking for the tape measure, I think my husband hid
it, I don't know what he thinks I can do.
someone ask what the stand measured in another post last week
tank
front/back 18.5 inch
top/bottom 22 inch
long 72 inch
--------
stand
73 long
20 front/back
24 top/bottom
its a wood stand reinforced on the inside with ply wood
got to go get the kids from school, hope every one is having a nice day

That's one of the nicest calculators I've seen (and I've collected a
few). It even accounts for water displacement by substrate height, and
adjusts the weight accordingly. Book-marked, thanks!

Netmax..... remember I had told you we were getting a 120 gl tank? My
husband wanted me to ask if you by chance would know the weight when
filled? Is it 3 lbs per gl of water?
We are going to try and set it up in the next few days, but we are
trying to figure the best place in the house, I was going to put it
where I have my 55 gl, which also has a 29 gl and a 10 gl below it,
but I guess since the weight is spread out between three tanks it
would not be the same thing...
I know you said put it the opposite way the supports go, and he is
going to reinforce with a "T" below it ....in the basement. Any web
pages or anything I can get info?
thanks Nikki

Sounds about the same size as mine is....No, I don't have any sal****er
tanks - I did consider it once but decided that the work involved wasn't
for me so set up a Malawi tank instead (very colourful but freshwater).
Of our regulars I think Roy runs some sal****er tanks - the
rec.aquaria.marine.* newsgroups might be a good place to lurk if you are
considering it.

Been thinking about it, i think i am going to have to go to a big fish place
and check out some fish, i would like something colorful, I wanted to do a
sal****er in a 39 long i have but i read it would be hard because you want
something bigger, so i was thinking about the new one, i guess i will have
to check it out and see how *hard* it is, I dont want to get in over my
head, maybe i'll find something else, my husband wants cichlids

Sal****er is a bit more work than fresh, but a fish-only tank is only
*hard* if you overstock. Sal****er fish can get big and are often picky
about food. They can be very territorial and aggressive so you have to
be careful what you put in the tank. You may have to feed frozen foods
all the time. Water changes are more work because you have to mix the
sal****er ahead of time. As far as equipment, you'd probably want a
wet/dry filter and maybe a protein skimmer for a fish-only tank. You
need a lot of biofiltration because above pH 8, ammonia is deadly.

Reef tanks are harder. It's kind of like running a freshwater planted
tank, but harder because plants aren't particularly sensitive to water
conditions and don't tend to sting each other to death. You need bright
lights, a protein skimmer, and a pretty good amount of expensive live
rock and sand to get one started. Oh - and a lot of money. The live
rock alone would run you about $1000, and corals are anywhere from $20 -
$50 apiece.

It is a nice calculator but I noticed a couple odd things. It's only
recommending about half an inch of fish per gallon in freshwater, and about
a third that in salwater. Clearly the density of various substrate materials
would vary a lot. I think I put 60 pounds of epoxy coated gravel in my
aquarium, but it indicates that gravel at that depth would weigh 92 lbs.
