That's the fear, but personally I doubt that it would
spread from that unless it was in the reproductive stage
when popped.

That's one approach. If you have the sort of camera that can handle a macro
lens, you can buy macro "tubes" to attach to your regular lenses. A telephoto
with a macro tube does a bang-up job too, but even your standard 50mm will work
well for this.
