Hey Wayne I didn't know you are from Leesburg. I will be heading to
Bushnell next month. Any good reef/fish places to see around the area?
Went to the Tampa Aquarium last year and enjoyed it.

Ok, if I start selling it I'll let you know. Right now I'm testing the
ebay waters by auctioning off ph meters and calibration solutions.

I've never done ebay before, so this will be interesting. :-)

There's a fairly good one in Gainesville called
Aquatropics owned by Matias. I saw him almost every
week when I went down to Tampa wholesalers to get fish.

If you go to Orlando, and open a phone book, you
will see that there are several on the same street,
and several others all close to each other. That
makes it nice for going to one reef store to
another, to another, to another.

Personally I'm not too impressed with what's
available these days. I purchased a store, and
renamed it, and built it up and had great plans, but
I could not compete against the dishonesty of the
other stores. The problem is that most stores that
are successful with lot's of stuff in the stores, do
so by dishonesty. But then there aren't to many
honest stores around in any field. I was at office
depot, and asked them why they were selling the HP
Pavilion lap tops when they were known to be lemons.
They guy said that he had never heard of any
complaints. Yea right :-)

Do you mean selling stuff to people that they know have a slim chance of
success? That's how I ended up with my H. magnifica on day 2 of the hobby.

I had one customer tell me that she bought this
really pretty salt water fish at the other store,
and got it at a really good price. She said that she
was told that it would eat fish poop.

3 guesses what that fish was, and the first 2
guesses don't count :-)

I knew as soon as she said that, what kind of fish
it was. What would be the farthest thing from the
truth, and you have your answer.

It was a mandarin dragnet.

I used to raise crickets. I had over 100,000 of
them. I sold the healthiest crickets, and for the
best price. One guy at another store said "But
Wayne's crickets don't have protein."

It's amazing what they will say for a sale.

The irony is that sales person probably believed that. I've met some of
the most ill informed people talking like they were the font of all
knowledge.

ah, the power of FUD (ie, Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt). it seems to
be universal in sales. FUD is usually crafted to be difficult to combat
as well. Once the seed is planted, it just seems to grow. It's
definitely dirty, but also very effective.

In the case of crikets, I'd put of a placard about the crickets are fed
some patented formula (WTech) that makes this especially nutritious to
their predators. WTech delivers protein, calcium, and blah, blah, blah to
your pet.

Vrs. crickets shipped in from Timbuktu that literally eat themselves
from the inside out. All you're feeding your pet is the twinkie of
crickets.

Hey, FUD is a two way street. Gotta toot your own horn.
