Default A Not Very Good Idea

My pond filter is a plastic container, about 20 inches diameter, 15
inches deep.

I had it filled with lava rock, which worker rather well. then I
planted cannas in it. they grew quite well. Then the roots plugged
up the gravel and no water would go through. I ground off my
fingetrnai;s and a bit of skin on my hand digging out the lava from
underneath the plants. I'm not sure which is worse, cannas or iris.
