Thanks Teeb. It sure was freaky this morning and the crab did get out
of it in one piece! The first time my shrimp molted it also freaked me out - but the shrimp shed it's hardened shell/carpace and I didn't realize crabs do it too, just not their "shell". And thanks for the heads up on my hermit crab probably doing it in the near future. Though he actually tries to climb OUT of the tank via the powerheads! wendy "Teeb" wrote in message ... Shrimps do it... crabs do it.. even little hermits in their shellllls do it... ahem.. ok.. enough. Yes.. crabs molt... and yes it's freaky the first time you notice it. Sometimes they get out of it in one whole piece and it sure looks like a crap corpse! Teeb "msitgal" wrote in message om... Hello: I have a small brown with yellow rings Sally lightfoot crab which I acquired about 3 months ago. This morning, while I was moving rocks around in the tank I found what appeared to be a dead lightfoot crab, in the same body shape and legs as the Sally lightfoot crab, minus the shell. AT FIRST I thought it was the remains of my crab, however, this wasn't true as I then saw Sally scuttling away and moving around the tank because I'd invaded her space. I have visual confirmation that my crab is alive and well, sooooo, my question is, what was the apparently dead crab body that I found???? I know that my cleaner shrimp sheds its carpace every 3-4 weeks as it grows, but this wasn't the shell of the crab but the form of a body. If anyone knows what this is please let me know. I haven't been able to find any info on the net as of yet. thanks and regards, wendy |
