Default Howdy Folks! New to the group and ponds :ŹD

Hi Everyone!
Just thought I would introduce myself (the better half is lurking over my
left shoulder kibitzing)
We recently retired (very young for retirees, God Bless the Union!!) and
decided to go on a grand adventure. We sold our home in central California
and moved to west Tennessee. Ahhh... this is heaven!

Our little place is 10.5 acres and came with a delightful "little" pond. Our
pond is 80-90 feet across and we are guessing at 15-20' deep in the middle.

Currently we have three turtles, one appears to be a largish (15" shell)
snapper about ten zillion frogs and their evil spawn and don't know if there
are any fish or not. We had two snakes swim across the pond earlier, well
halfway. They looked like water mocassins, so they are swimmin with the
fishes now, if you get my drift.

So, while trying to figure out what to do about an algae problem we are
having I found your group. Looks like you have a great bunch of people here
and we are looking forward to learning a lot.

Kate
(the lurker is Dick, he's the good one...I am the evil twin)

Welcome!

So, while trying to figure out what to do about an algae problem we are

Use barley straw for algae control.
There are tons of sites telling how barley straw works on algae, just
use a search engine to search for 'barley straw'

Umm... but don't you have to have a filtering system and all that?

A filter system for a pond that large? I hope you own an electric company!

Actually just a few 50 pound bales, put in the water so that half is
submerged.
I don't recall what you said you had, but if you have running water,
put a bale in it too.

Good, so am I :-)

By the way group and BV, SVTKate is just a perfect lady, we have hung out
together in the Mustang group for a while!

Very helpful, quick learner. A shame she chose to leave wonderful
California for Georgia!

Do ask her about her lovely Mustang, and her guns! And you should see her
property and her pond I mean her lake!

Anyway, welcome Kate! You will love it here! Totally different from the
more rowdy Mustang crowd

Would that be Mustang, as in a Ford car? Or Mustang, as in wild horses? I hope
this question doesn't sound too naive. I do have a reason for asking.
