(rough greetings from old fish) - are they koi? (who come sometimes be very hard on plants) - are the fish spawning? (general mayhem) - do you live in an area where you could have a visiting snapper turtle? (love to clip plants, usually spotted by floating lily pads with their stems clipped at the bottom) kathy :-) algae primer http://hometown.aol.com/ka30p/myhomepage/garden.html |

I have a few varieties of oxygenating plants that normally stay submerged but this year they are sticking near the top. I believe it is because I have too much of the damn stuff. BV. |

My 110 gallon stock tank with all of 6 minnows in it has about a ton of anacharis, a water fringe & a few other floaters. The water is crystal clear, the fish healthy so I don't worry, but I do pull some of it occasionally and toss it on the compost pile (or in one of the other ponds if they need it). There's too much of a good thing, right? ![]() There's one floating plant that looks like anacharis but has longer leaves and gets a little white flower on it. Never saw that before. Gail |

Hi, There is more than one 'anacharis', they all have white flowers that float. Elodea canadensis, E. nuttallii and Egeria densa are sold as anacharis. http://www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/wq/pl...ive/elodea.htm HTH -_- how no NEWS is good. |

The information was very useful and I've bookmarked the site. It looks like I have some Brazilian elodea along with common waterweed. Where I got it from I have no idea. Fortunately my ponds are not connected with any natural water way, nor is there a possibility of my plants getting into a natural water way. (We're well above flood plains & any excess plants go onto my compost pile.) Gail |
