Upgraded pond

I have just up-graded my garden pond from 1000 litres to approx 6500 (1717
US gal 1429 imp' gal) - 7000 litres. Is it ok to put the fish (Sarasa
comets) back in straight away? Unfortunately I could only save about 20 imp
gals of the original pond water, but hope this will help to kick start the
new pond. I have save all the plants though, including a water lily.

Alex, there are a couple of things you should check before adding the fish.
First, make sure the temperature of the water they are in and the pond are
very
close. Second, does your water company add chlorine or chloramine? That
should be taken care of with an appropriate Dechlor before adding your
fish.
The pond guys who always assisted me would make me wait a week before
adding the fish - probably to 'age' the water.

I would get them transferred as quickly as possible to prevent ammonia
poisoning in the small amount of water in the temporary facility. Normally,
I would like to see the number of fish added to a pond, be small, and give
the filter a chance to catch up, but with the fish in temporary quarters,
the pond will be a better environment.

Thanks for the tips all!

I have transferred them as soon as possible, but I did take note of
conditioning the tap water etc; as recommended by you guys.

The comets started to jump out of the water almost immediately but not to
frequently (don't know if this is a good or bad thing though?) Anyhow, after
about half an hour and with the light dimming they seemed to settle down.

I also added the floating plants and the water lily which completely
dominated the pond before, but now looks pretty lonely! This time I have
decided to plant the marginals etc outside of the pond itself and plant in a
self contained bog garden. Hopefully, the effect will still blend into the
overall picture of a watergarden. However, the fish won't be able to eat the
plants out of existence this time around!
