Aquarium lights

I bought at Home Depot 2x 18" Philips NATURAL SUNSHINE 15W, 5000K lights for
my 20 gallon tank. Cost me $6.79 each. It has a yellowish color light in
the tank, quite natural. Also, they sell for plant growing 18" light with
special spectrum, may be I should've get that one? It had much less
luminosity.
Are they OK for growing plants? Any one tried it?
Some how, I have to get two or three of these into my light strip, so at
least I get 30 -45W light into my tank.
PetsMart had on one of the 36 gallon corner tank 24" dual light strip, but
it only comes with that tank, they don't sell it separate. Looks it would
fit mine.
I'll search the net for it.

Unless your tank is very deep, you don't need too much light to get
good plant growth - one tube should do it - see:

My 20 gallon only has 15W ligth right now, what I read shouldbe at least 2W
/ gallon for low light plants.
I think 15W is not enough.

I have the same setup. 20 gal planted tank with 1x15watt tube over it, I
had slow plant growth and poor colors in the leaves. After adding a 2nd 15
watt strip light over it, my plants took off and color much improved. I am
currently very happy with the tank and regularly have to prune the plants to
stop the overgrowth.

I think, that's my problem too. I have to add more light.
Only have one 15W strip.

You know I have a 20. and what I tried and liked was I put in a bulb
called Sun 2.0. Its in the reptile section of petsmart thats where I
found it And my plants are really doing good.

Sun 2.0 is fluorescent or incandescent bulb? Incandescent gives off too much
heat.
