What conditions do the severums need for spawning and what kind of
pre-spawning rituals occur prior to spawning them? Thanks, Mark |

Thanks, Mark I have a pair right now that spawn every 3 weeks or so. I keep the water slightly acid, and provide them a cave with a tall flat rock is about all I do. Live food when she's ready seems to help. Are you sure you have a pair? I had only females for a year until I found a male. They shake and shimmie, and play fight alot when they are ready to lay. The male is especially protective of the entire tank, attacking your fingers against the outside of the tank when waved at him. -- JK Sinrod Sinrod Stained Glass Studios www.sinrodstudios.com Coney Island Memories www.sinrodstudios.com/coneymemories |

Thanks, Mark I have a pair that have spawned 3-4 times. Eggs hatched last time, and they moved the wrigglers into a pit. None have survived so far. They're in an "aggressive" 6ft tank, with spawning Convicts and Blue Acaras. Try to ensure you've got a pair, then they need a vertical rock surface, which can be in the open. Mine do the shimmy very often. Don't think the water conditions are that critical...ie the usual for SA cichlids, water changes weekly etc. I've never done anything to encourage spawning Leong |

Leong,
When you say a vertical rock surface, do you mean a slanting rock like the Angelfish spawn on. I have a 12 inch terra cotta flower pot plate laying flat on the sand floor. Do you think this plate is good to use for their spawning site" Mark "Leong Goh" wrote in message ... "Mark" wrote in message hlink.net... These are smooth rock surfaces. There is a terracotta cylinder in the tank, but they have never spawned on it. Convicts have spawned in it though, so your pot may work. I'd put in a few rocks if you haven't any to increase your chances. My impression is that as long as you have a pair, they will do whatever it takes to reproduce! Leong |
