Default Advice on Protien Skimmer

I am somewhat new to the newsgroup. I am looking for advice on a good
skimmer to get for a 75 gallon tank that will be fish with live rock. The
local stores try to sell the seaclone, but I get the feeling that it is not
well liked. Second, how can you measure the performance of a skimmer?
Thanks for the help.

Hi Dan,

I won't waste you time with a list to pick from. Just buy the Aqua C Remora
Pro, and be done with it.
You won't regret it. It is rated up to 125g. Be sure to get it with the
MaxiJet or Mag drive, not the Rio.

I'd measure good performance by popular opinion!

Take a look at the Remora or Remora Pro Hang on Back skimmers from AquaC
(www.proteinskimmer.com). They are among the best of the HOB skimmers
available and don't start at too much more money than a SeaClone. You will
definitely get the opposite feeling with this skimmer. It's difficult to
find any negatives with this model. Not only is it a great skimmer, but
it's easy to setup too. The only adjustment is the height of the collection
cup....I like that. And, it looks cool too!

How does the AQUAC EV180 WITH MAG7 compare ? I bought it in the hope of
using it in a sump for more then one tank.

I have the EV-200 (Mag 12) on my 55g, and I know it is overkill, but it was the
right price. What size tanks do you plan to hook up to that sump and
skimmer?

For now it will only be hooked up to a 29g with a 5g sump. I am not sure if
I might want to trade it out for the SeaLife I have on my 39g (5g sump
also).

So, the EV-180 doesn't suck(pun intended) then ?

Heck no! Great skimmers, from my own personal experience.

hehe

I started to search but couldnt find what I was looking for, I dont own either the 180 or
the 200, but I do recall some simple modification to the 180 that was either already done
or didnt apply to the 200, I cant really recall if it was a fix or a make better, I know
it wasnt major and havent heard anything really bad about them.

there are several do you need HOB or sump

. The

its very good you made that feeling, because its not, even a few of the

people who have
said it works ok, have put newer better skimmers on and been blown away by

the difference.

Second, how can you measure the performance of a skimmer?
Thanks for the help.

its something that can be argued until you turn blue, in reality the only

things we have
to go by are the flow through numbers, and how easy it is to adjust
a "good" skimmer for a certain tank generally is considered one that will

handle 5x the
tank volume in an hour

Your hidist, I do not see that as overkill. I see more turn over and more
circulation.
