Wet\Dry's have fallen out of popularity due to their tendancy to
become nitrate factories. This does not alway happen, however. If you
have a sufficient amount of good Live Rock, and a low Bio-load, this
type of filter will be fine.
Myself, I prefer the Live Rock method of filtration. Either in
the display tank, or in a large hidden refugium\sump. The LR, when
everything is clicking, will process all toxins away, I don't even
have to do water changes to reduce nitrates.
So, I suppose it's up to you. Both methods can work, and do work
for many people. Me, I really like having a large sump under the tank
to hide heaters and dosers, and a place to toss critters that won't
behave, as well. g
