Default A few factoids on the Shedd Aquarium.....

Hi there fishy folks.
I know NetMax just recently visited our lovely Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, IL
(USA for those abroad).
In the local paper there was an article about it with some interesting little
tid bits.
The Shedd turns 75 yrs old this year.
The Aquarium will be free until the 20th, and the Oceanarium price will be
reduced (to what I do not know, their site did not say).
They closed down for 2 weeks and did spring cleaning in every tank, and brought
back the Sea Horse exhibit (YEA! I love the Sea Dragons), and the Frog exhibit
as well...both permanant now (Yea again).
Their Australian Lungfish (named Granddad) has been there since the late
1930's.
The Shedd is one of the oldest public aquariums in the nation, and is the
largest in the world.
When the Shedd first opened, it was the first aquarium to have Neon Tetras.
Their initial Tetras came from Germany and were sent on the Hindenburg (no..it
wasn't the zeppelin's fateful voyage), and only one Neon survived, and was
named "Lucky Lindy".
Seawater used to be shipped from Florida to the Shedd via tanker until the
1970's...when they started to make their own seawater.
The Shedd also had a train called the Nautilus which hauled specimens from the
coast to Chicago.
If anyone wants to learn more about the Shedd....
